WREFORD PROVIDE ENHANCEMENT TO HASKINS GARDEN CENTRE
Item dated 30/09/08
Wreford have just completed the majority of a landscaping enhancement of the car park area to Haskins Garden Centre in Ferndown. The contract, worth in excess of £90,000, included replacing overgrown shrub beds with hard landscaping and transforming the overgrown dried up pond area, immediately to the east of the main access road, into an open, turfed and planted area containing a feature granite stone (supplied by Time Circles). Pictured is the ‘before’ and ‘after’ of one of the shrub beds. The contract began on the site on 4th August and currently the only outstanding works are the completion of the landscaping around the new cafeteria which is still being constructed. This remaining work will involve the planting of approximately 1,000 shrubs. Sarah Mander, Landscaping Manager for Wreford, commented: “The whole team has worked extremely hard on this project and I am proud of their considerable achievement.”

WREFORD’S STANDARD OF EXCELLENCE RECOGNISED BY AWARD
Item dated 29/09/08
The design and build project at Prospect Place in Salisbury was announced as the winner of the Silver Gilt Medal in the category of ‘Best Restored Garden’ at the 2008 New Homes Garden Awards. This award-winning garden was designed by Garden Designer and Landscape Architect, Catherine Thomas, and constructed by Wreford’s Landscaping Department. The walled courtyard garden in the heart of the city was skilfully restored in a Mediterranean style, including 2 olive trees and an ornamental pool. Wreford are thrilled to have received recognition for the hard work and attention to detail that went into this exciting project. The New Homes Garden Awards, now in their fifth year, seek to raise the quality and standard of the outdoor space around new homes. They are a symbol of excellence, creativity, environmental responsibility and total customer care, rewarding excellence in garden and landscape design. They are highly regarded and sought-after accolades, recognised by house builders, garden designers, landscapers and landscape architects as the 'Golden Globes' of outdoor space and new home development.

ARE YOU SELLING A HOUSE WITH KNOTWEED IN THE GARDEN?
Item dated 01/09/08
With mortgage lending becoming more selective in the current property market, houses with Japanese knotweed growing in the garden – or growing in an adjacent garden – are finding it harder to obtain mortgages. Mortgage lenders are recognising the costs involved in treating knotweed and are looking for guarantees from vendors that treatment plans are in place prior to the sale. Wreford have responded to this development by offering Knotweed Management Plans (KMPs) geared specifically for the home market. Whilst not as detailed as a standard KMP, and therefore less expensive, the domestic KMP provides sufficient information on the knotweed and recommended treatment that, when used in conjunction with evidence that a treatment programme is in place, should satisfy the mortgage lender’s criteria. For more information click here or call Wreford on 023 8081 6628.

KNOTWEED A GROWING BUSINESS
Item dated 18/08/08
Wreford’s Japanese Knotweed Department continues to go from strength to strength. Despite the current economic climate, which has seen an inevitable slowdown in the meteoric year on year rise in business witnessed in the past five years, the Knotweed Department is still attracting over £1 million of contracts per annum. To reflect this continuing popularity, the knotweed website (www.knotweed.co.uk) has been completely revised with some new text, some new pictures and a whole new look. Let us know what you think.

Item dated 08/08/08
Wreford were this week awarded a £60,000 hedgerow reinstatement contract by pipeline specialists Land & Marine NACAP. Wreford’s Japanese knotweed department were contracted by 2020 Knowsley, on behalf of Liverpool City Council, to herbicidally treat knotweed discovered growing on the playing fields of a Primary School in the Liverpool region of West Derby. On arrival at the school in July, Wreford operatives found the scale of the knotweed infestation to be greater than originally reported. A subsequent survey and photographs of the other knotweed areas were sent to 2020 Knowsley. One photograph in particular (right) made such an impression on 2020’s Landscape and Habitat Manager, Frank Jones, that he deemed it to ‘sum up knotweed in one shot’. Consequently, Wreford today received confirmation that their contract has been extended to include further areas of the playing field boundaries, as well as the adjacent Jewish Cemetery and a neighbouring Catholic Church.

COMMENCEMENT OF COMMUNITY CENTRE PROJECT
Item dated 23/07/08
Wreford have been contracted to landscape a pioneering day centre for the elderly by Brazier Construction of the Kier Group. The new, £1m, purpose-built centre, on Challenger Way in Dibden in the New Forest, will replace the aging Cussens Day Centre in Hythe. It will be named after Doug Horrill, president of the New Forest East branch of Age Concern, who has been campaigning for such a facility for a number of years. The single story building has been purpose-designed for the elderly and will be the first centre to provide services in line with Hampshire County Council’s Adult Social Services’ modernisation plan. Wreford commenced work today on landscaping the spacious and secure private garden, which includes raised borders and beds. An interesting aspect of the project is the number of unusual species involved in the planting scheme, including Fennel (Foeniculum vulgare 'Purpurascens'), Woodrush (Luzula sylvatica 'Marginata'), ‘Purple Moor’ (Molinia caerulea ssp. Arundinacea), Culver’s Root (Veronica virginica) and Aster (Aster amelius ‘King George’). Councillor Patricia Banks, executive member for Adult Social Services at Hampshire County Council, was quoted as saying The Horrill Centre could become a "template for the future of day services".
HOT STUFF

Yesterday saw Wreford personnel taking part in a Fire Awareness Training Day, held at The Mortimer Arms close to the Ower premises. Conducted by Andy Fox of the Dorset Fire Service, Wreford staff were trained in the proper use of fire extinguishers, the choice of extinguisher depending upon the nature and location of the fire and in evacuation procedures. The day culminated in a Fire Drill exercise. Wreford would like to thank Mr Fox for an enjoyable and informative day.
